Rochester melt-and-refreeze glazes the pad you just drove. Complimentary salt rides with the residential visit. Driveway and sidewalks get it. We do not sell ice melt off a pallet.
Walks matter here. The city wants them clear within 24 hours. Salt on the plan is how the glaze gets handled after the snow. Typical seasonal driveway packages in town skip the walks entirely. Sidewalks stay included.

SnowSota puts complimentary salt on the residential visit. We do not publish which bag we use, and we do not sell deicer. Rochester Public Works does publish how salt behaves. From the city's Smart Salting Best Practices page:
Shovel or plow first. Compacted snow becomes ice and takes more product. Rock salt (sodium chloride) is much less effective below 15°F; the city says use sand for traction when it is that cold, or a different deicer. Scatter granules about three inches apart. Sweep leftover product so it does not wash into storm drains. The city writes that one teaspoon of salt permanently pollutes five gallons of water.
Those same city notes: calcium chloride works down to −20°F and is less hard on plants. Calcium magnesium acetate is salt-free, works down to 20°F, and is safer for vegetation and concrete. That is the city's product list, not ours. Complimentary salt on the house plan is still salt on the visit, not a bag for sale.
